Insects After Dark

Al Fay Park, Reem Island, Reem Island
Endangered Species

About the Event:

In honour of this year's City Nature ChallengeNatural History Museum Abu Dhabi and Connect With Nature are coming together to showcase the nocturnal life in Abu Dhabi.

About the event:
Ever wondered where insects go at night? While some sleep under leaves or in rock crevices, others, like moths, come alive after sunset. To uncover the hidden world of nighttime insects, we’ll be setting up special light traps using visible and UV light (which insects can’t resist!).
Join the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi’s Curator of Entomology, Dr. Brigitte Howarth, to explore this. Here’s how it works: light traps are placed on tripods above white sheets, attracting insects that fly or crawl toward the glow. This setup lets us observe and study the amazing variety of species up close. Sometimes, even spiders or other curious creatures drop by!
Join us as we explore the wild side of Abu Dhabi after dark. Bring your curiosity and a sense of adventure, we can’t wait to see what we’ll discover together!

Before the event:
In preparation for the walk, please download the iNaturalist app and create your profile to help document local biodiversity during the event.
We recommend light clothing suitable for hot and humid weather. Bring plenty of water! All registered participants will receive a special goodie bag and a certificate of participation, so don’t miss out! Spaces are limited.
